On this episode of The Patty Show, I finally connect IN PERSON with my Indonesian creative sister, Vania Ivena Kurniawan! Thanks to our Indo creative brother Yafi, aka Anak LA, we linked up and immediately vibed over creativity, culture, and chasing our passions.
Vania is a creative producer at NBCUniversal, a stand-up comedian, filmmaker, writer, and editor. Her journey began in Indonesia, where she studied film, directed the documentary Figuran, and worked on the action-thriller Headshot before moving to the U.S. to earn her MFA in Film and Television from SCAD. Today, she’s balancing her professional career with her own creative ambitions and bringing her Indonesian perspective and humor to the LA comedy scene.
We talk about navigating multiple passions, balancing a day job with creative dreams, finding your voice, and building a life that makes room for every side of who you are. Plus, one moment that means a lot to me: Vania is starting her own podcast, inspired in part by The Patty Show! 🥹🔥 Seeing another Indonesian creative take that leap makes me proud, and I can’t wait to see what she creates.
